Long Meadow Ranch Cattle Company is the owner of several hundred outstanding Highland cattle with bloodlines that include the 2000 Grand and Reserve Champion cows and the 1999 Champion Cow/Calf Pair. Our herd, also known as a "fold", includes the former Highland Spice fold, the 2000 Premier Breeder and Exhibitor at the National Western Stock Show.
We focus on raising outstanding breeding stock and on producing exceptional grass-fed beef for Farmstead at Long Meadow Ranch's restaurant and for our Farmers Market at Long Meadow Ranch.
Our growing operation is based on our 700-acre Tomales Station (in Marin County) which is home to the mother cow herd. At our Mayacamas Estate we maintain our bulls as well as selected cows for special breeding projects. Our weaned calves and yearlings enjoy lush grasses on the Di Rosa Preserve, as well as on an adjacent ranch, along Highway 121 in the Carneros region of southern Napa County. We lease and maintain more than 1000 acres of prime grazing land in Carneros.
We also have several large-scale grazing leases in Ferndale, California (in Humboldt County) where our pastures have some of the finest coastal grass in the United States.
In Ferndale, we operate a state-of-the-art rotational pasture grazing system in the bottomlands near Humboldt Bay. Knee deep in nutritious grass our cattle rotate daily to fresh pastures - allowing them to gain weight healthily - and rapidly - while at the same time maintaining grasslands productivity and virtually eliminating problems with parasites.
