Although Aaron grew up outside of Boston in the town of Framingham, he has deep California roots. Both of his parents are from the Visalia area of California and he was born in Ojai. His grandparents were cattle ranchers and farmers themselves. Aside from the cattle, they had horses, sheep, hogs and his grandfather bred and trained border collies. The two major crops were cotton and oranges. While growing up in Massachusetts, he tried to come out and spend summers on the farm whenever possible.
Aaron attended a small private catholic school in Framingham and then went on to Westfield State College in Westfield, MA. After his sophomore year, a trip to Santa Barbara was a life-changing experience. Working at the restaurant Citronelle in the Santa Barbara Hotel, owned and run by Michel Richard, he was able to see how world class cuisine was prepared and served for the first time. Starting out as a room service waiter, Aaron ended the summer expediting lunch service - a highly skilled position (especially since it was in an open kitchen, which was groundbreaking in 1992).
After a return to UMass at Amherst, Aaron left Massachusetts for good to move to San Francisco to pursue his newly-found passion for fine food. As the bar manager at The Holding Company, Aaron's horizons expanded as he started to influence the wine list and would have an active role in the tastings and decision making And, he also met his future wife.
After a brief sojourn back to Massachusetts to deal with family matters, Aaron returned to be in the Napa Valley. He started work immediately at The Mustards Grill, but not for long, as he heard about a new restaurant opening up by a much talked-about owner named Bettina Rouas. Aaron joined Bettina and soon was on the opening team at Angele Resaurant, located along the river in downtown Napa. He worked his way through several management positions at Angele, ulitmately becoming general manager.
Following the birth of his first son, Aaron left restaurant hours behind to work for the Steltzner family as their director of retail operations and for a small Sonoma winery before joining us at Long Meadow Ranch.
"I still remember my fist visit to the Napa Valley in the summer of 1996 ," says Aaron. "I fell in love. From this first visit on, I couldn't get enough. My future wife and I would come up every chance we got. We would go to Paso Robles, Sonoma, Lodi, everywhere they were making wine but Napa remained our favorite. We told ourselves that if we could ever make it work, Napa was where we wanted to be. And, now here we are with the LMR family."
