Long Meadow Ranch Winery Releases
Its 2001 Vintage Cabernet Sauvignon

October 1, 2004, St. Helena, CA

Long Meadow Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon-Napa Valley's innovative Long Meadow Ranch has just released its mountain estate-grown 2001 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. The fruit for the 2000 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon was crushed September 23-30, 2001, by winemaker, Cathy Corison at Long Meadow Ranch's AIA-award winning winery facility. The wine was finished and bottled under Cathy's direction by associate winemaker, Ashley Heisey.

This complex wine, produced by Long Meadow Ranch's 1100 foot high Bear Canyon Vineyard atop the Mayacamas Mountains, is yet another fine example of the vineyard's distinctive black and red fruit flavors. "This eighth vintage from the Long Meadow Ranch vineyard continues to reflect the truly distinctive terroir of this vineyard," said winemaker Corison.

Associate winemaker Heisey added, "This wine has deep garnet color with beautiful purple edges. The nose carries bordelaise characteristics with tea, tobacco, cedar, and ripe black fruit. On the palate there are powerful tannins giving a rich full-bodied mouth feel including briar patch and dried black tea. Finishing richly, the wine has a complex earthiness knit with dark fruit."

Aged for 26 months in 100 percent French Oak from cooper Seguin Moreau with a touch of estate-grown Cabernet Franc (three percent) adding additional complexity, the wine seam-lessly integrates oak and fruit. The handcrafted balance and pleasantly moderate alcohol level (13.5 percent) make the 2001 Cabernet a perfect complement to food - especially with LMR Highland beef, with lamb, or with roasted game. This is a very special wine ideal for drinking now and for laying away.

Long Meadow Ranch has made a place for itself among the elite producers of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon since its first release of the 1996 vintage in the fall of 1999. Long Meadow Ranch's distinctive wine enjoys worldwide placement in a long list of awarding-winning restaurant cellars, including Gidleigh Park Hotel, Le Caprice and The Ivy in England; Four Seasons, Restaurant Daniel, and Gotham Bar & Grill in New York; Range in Aspen; Aureole and Picasso in Las Vegas; Masa's, Hawthorne Lane, Rubicon, and Gary Danko in San Francisco; Eccho, Tru and Charlie Trotter's in Chicago; and New York Grill, Tableaux and Kitano Garden in Tokyo.

Long Meadow Ranch is also pleased with the success of its LMR Corral Club, established in 2001. This innovative consumer partnership offers special invitations for members-only events at the Ranch, the opportunity to purchase limited production, library and large-format bottlings, plus the option to buy pre-release wines and Long Meadow Ranch's premium Prato Lungo and Napa Valley Select olive oils.

Long Meadow Ranch has pioneered a distinctive approach to farming in the Napa Valley. With its motto, "Excellence through Responsible Farming," owners Ted and Laddie Hall have created an integrated, organic farming system that does not rely on the prevailing monoculture of grapes. "I truly believe that world class red wine can be made using simple, sustainable farming methods, " said Ted Hall. "But, we are not only producing red wine that can be proudly poured with the world's best, we are also producing olive oil, specialty beef, and organic vegetables and eggs in a highly responsible, economically viable fashion. Our wine reflects our philosophy of balance and our deep respect for the land."
