Winemaker – Anderson Valley Estate
Stéphane Vivier joined the Long Meadow Ranch winemaking team in 2015. A native of Burgundy, Vivier’s old-world sensibilities are ideally suited to working with the Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris varietals at our Anderson Valley Estate.
Vivier obtained degrees in viticulture and enology from Université de Bourgogne in Dijon and cultivated his vineyard and cellars skills at Pommard, Meursault and Chassagne-Montrachet, before working as a young winemaker in Switzerland, New Zealand and the Russian River. In 2002, Vivier accepted a life-changing invitation to work under noted winemaker Aubert de Villaine, co-director of the famed Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.
Hyde de Villaine, de Villaine’s partnership with Larry Hyde of Hyde Vineyards, was just two vintages old when Vivier was named winemaker, where he continues his role as consulting head winemaker. Stéphane also oversees his own label, Vivier, which he started with wife Dana in 2009.
Winemaking has been a life-long pursuit for Vivier. His first job, working at a neighbor’s vineyard, was taken to repay a debt when his soccer ball damaged their tulips. These days, Lucile and Armand, the Viviers’ two children, are a more likely threat to the neighbor’s garden.
