Long Meadow Ranch Sangiovese has often been called "California's Best Sangiovese."
Frankly, we have not tasted all of the Sangiovese wines from California, but we do know that this wine shows the true varietal character that we have found only in Italy. This wine expresses the essence of the great Sangiovese grape with its delicate nose, rich color, and seductively soft mouth feel.
We have paired this elegant Sangiovese with a first course of carpaccio made from Long Meadow Ranch Grass-fed Highland Beef. We also enjoy our Sangiovese paired with roasted chicken or quail as a main course. We have even served it with rhubarb and strawberry shortcake for dessert.
Don't miss the opportunity to try this exquisite, very-limited production wine (just 140 cases).

Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
The weather in 2009 brought below average rainfall for the Napa Valley. However, we did receive 2 inches of rain in the first two weeks of May which provided sufficient soil moisture for our vineyards. The weather then turned warm and breezy causing many set issues among red varieties around the valley, but not at Long Meadow Ranch. We had a mild summer with slightly below average temperatures, no longer prolong heat spikes and less morning fog than usual. We harvested early and were pleased with the physiologically ripe grapes at moderate sugars allowing us to make a fully flavored wine at lower alcohol.
Winemaker Notes
“The youthful red hues of this Sangiovese are consistent with its fruity and vibrant nature. The varietally classic nose shows off black cherry, dried roses, black pepper, minerality and smoky black tea. All of these bright and pure flavors persist on the palate. The texture is silky, smooth and coating. The progression leads to a compelling combination of minerality and mixed red fruits on the finish. Mouthwatering, structured and layered, this Sangiovese exemplifies personality of place and varietal authenticity.” -Ashley Heisey
