LMR Ranch House Red is an "E-Z" drinking wine perfect for a gathering of family and friends. The label features one of our first Appaloosa horses, "E-Z", who also worked as Ted’s personal horse. We felt that his (the horse's) relaxed, good-natured temperament perfectly captured the spirit of this “easy” drinking red wine.

Growing Season:

Winter rains took pause for a dry, mild March then began again with record-setting precipitation late into the growing season delaying bloom and set. The summer months were cool and pleasant with few heat spikes. Fog and cool temperatures were a concern heading into September as sugar levels were yet to rise in all varieties. Warm, nearly perfect conditions arrived with an Indian Summer making for a later than average harvest, providing winemakers with fruit with extended hang and ultimately realizing excellent sugar development and balanced acids with a larger than average crop of what could be a signature vintages from Napa Valley.

Winemaker’s Comments:

"This vintage of Ranch House Red has a remarkably deep and dark garnet color. It exudes the character of the place. All the best LMR flavors are present - vibrant black currant fruit, earthiness and incredible spice notes. But you know this wine isn't a Cabernet Sauvignon because its complex fruit character is completely fresh, approachable and spicy. There is a difference between spice from fruit and spice from oak. This wine has all its spice (mostly white and black pepper) from its fruit. This wine is perfectly balanced and ready for the table. Its tannins are ample, but soft. A pleasant backbone of acidity results in a mouthwatering, lingering finish.” - Ashley Heisey

Long Meadow Ranch:

Owned by Ted, Laddie & Christopher Hall, LMR employs an integrated organic farming system using simple, sustainable methods. Each part of the Ranch contributes to the health of the whole. Vineyards and wine making, olive orchards and olive oil making, cattle and horse breeding all work together in complementary fashion, as do the egg-laying poultry flock and the organic vegetable gardens. “Estate” fertilizers are created through an extensive composting operation that relies on organic material from each segment of the Ranch. Soil erosion is controlled and new soils are built through the extensive use of permanent cover crops made up of carefully selected grasses, clovers, and legumes. All crops are certified organic by the California Certified Organic Farmers and are grown without the use of herbicides, pesticides, or chemical fertilizers.
