Long Meadow Ranch Sangiovese

Long Meadow Ranch Sangiovese has been called "California's Best Sangiovese" by wine retailer and longtime friend, Greg O'Flynn of the California Wine Merchant and Wine Bar in San Francisco.

Frankly, we have not tasted all of the Sangiovese wines from California, but we do know that this wine shows the true varietal character that we have found only in Italy. This wine expresses the essence of the great Sangiovese grape with its delicate nose, rich color, and seductively soft mouth feel.

We find the Sangiovese is perfect for a summer al fresco lunch under the pergola. At other times during the year, we have paired this elegant Sangiovese with a first course of carpaccio made from Long Meadow Ranch Grass-fed Highland Beef, We also enjoy our Sangiovese paired with roasted chicken or quail as a main course. We have even served it with rhubarb and strawberry shortcake for dessert.

Respected industry leader and organic farming   pioneer, Frank Leeds manages our small Sangiovese vineyard (Peter's Vineyard) and our experienced and talented winemaker is Ashley Heisey.

WINEMAKER'S TASING NOTES
2004 LONG MEADOW RANCH SANGIOVESE
"Peter's Vineyard"

"This wine has a youthful, brilliant ruby color in the glass and is a riper version of LMR's typical Sangiovese. But, the wine offers plenty of vibrancy and varietal acidity. The red fruits of cherry plums and black cherry are complemented by sweet spiciness, minerals, dried orange peel, leather and cocoa powder. The broad, full entry becomes characteristically more focused on the mid-palate. The finish delivers a mouthwatering burst of red fruit and dried orange peel, which invites another sip - Ashley Heisey

The Vineyards:
In 1994 we began developing a Sangiovese vineyard. Inspired by our family friend, Peter Kraljic, who spent many seasons in the hills of Tuscany, "Peter's Vineyard" is located at a 1000 elevation on a southwest-facing slope. Aspiring to make a truly great Sangiovese in the tradition of Brunello, we believe that we are the first to plant on a site in the Mayacamas Mountains. Employing 3309 rootstock to reduce vigor and using the small-cluster, small-berry clone known as "Rodeno," we hope to produce a rich, full-bodied wine. Now in our third release, we are beginning to explore the possibilities for "Peter's Vineyard."

Long Meadow Ranch Sangiovese will be available to members of the LMR Corral Club at the members' only re-order price of $24.65 per bottle.
