Long Meadow Ranch Winery lies high above the Napa Valley on the picturesque slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains. Carved from a second growth forest at about 1100 feet elevation, the southwest-facing vineyards provide a distinctive "terroir" for Long Meadow Ranch wines.

Under the guiding hand of Napa Valley vineyard management legend, Laurie Wood, vineyard development began in 1990. Planted on 110R rootstock, budwood was selected from the Bella Oaks Vineyard in Rutherford and the Jordan Vineyard in Alexander Valley. Planted at 9x5 spacing and using contoured terraces, this is the first vineyard established on Long Meadow Ranch since before Prohibition. Since 1998 our vineyards have been managed by organic farming pioneer, Frank Leeds.

We made our first wine from the vineyard in 1994 and now, with eight vintages in our caves, it is clear that the vineyard is indeed a very special one. With its one hundred year heritage and extraordinary mountain location, this vineyard is destined to join the ranks of Napa Valley's most treasured sites.

The 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon is another fine example of the vineyard's distinctive blackberry and deep black cherry fruit flavors, intensely sweet cassis aromas, creamy oak character, and a long finish. Our '98 Cabernet has been a standout since the very first public barrel tasting with the trade. Properly decanted and presented, this wine is one of the best of the '98 vintage.

Additional limited-edition quantities of our wines will be available to members of the LMR Corral Club.

We began shipping the 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon on November 1, 2001.
